Nashville was a prominent settlement in middle Tennessee since the time when Fort Nashborough was founded in 1779. It has been a state capital since 1843, and today it's a financial centre of the middle-South and fast-developing industrial base as well. Nissan and Saturn motor plants, situated in Nashville, made once miniature city transform into big megapolis, stretching out in all directions.
Although Nashville is known as a 'blue-collar' city, it has about 16 educational establishments such as Vanderbilt University and famous black colleges of Fisk University and Meharry Medical School. People call Nashville the 'Athens of the South' as there is a replica of Parthenon. The city also attracts people by various sport events on golf, basketball, football and so on.
Despite having many entertaining venues, Nashville is pretty religious. It has more than 700 churches, more per head than elsewhere. Nashville also has colleges for training preachers and missionaries and plant of Bible-publishing.
